Meet Melissa Fennell
Welcome to Xtreme Total Care! For the past 20 years, Melissa Fennell has worked with families, businesses, schools, and organizations in the Southeast to promote self-care. Through her work, she’s helped countless individuals achieve what they weren’t aware was achievable. This is Melissa’s passion and she is purposely driven to assist.
Melissa became interested in health and nutrition while attending North Carolina State University where she graduated with a degree in Biological Business Management in 2001. In 2004, Melissa received a Masters in Health Administration and in 2007 received a Masters in Business Administration, both from Pfeiffer University. Melissa became a Certified Health Coach from the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute in Denver Colorado in 2016. Her education and career in Biological Business Management and later in Hospital Administration fueled her passion for learning and practicing preventative health. Today she serves as a hospital administrator in the Medical Service Corps of the US Navy Reserves where she received her commission in 2014.
Melissa was honored to win first place in the Ms. Black North Carolina pageant in 2008 which allowed her to promote her platform “Healthcare for the Actively Aging”. Through that platform, Melissa was able to educate people of all ages with a special interest for Military Veterans.
Even with her vast knowledge and expertise in the health and wellness industry, Melissa had no idea her own health would later become an issue. “I exercised often and ‘ate right’ so I thought I was in great health!”… so she thought!
In 2014 Melissa began experiencing shortness of breath and an intense pounding of her heart while exercising. Her healthcare provider diagnosed her with Exercise-Induced Asthma, Stress, and deduced that her total Cholesterol was on the high end. She hadn’t realized it but she had gained 22 lbs. from two bunionectomies that left her without any physical activity for 19 months.
Shortly after, Melissa’s Mother was diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer.
After these diagnoses, Melissa quickly turned things around and began researching natural and holistic treatments. She wasn’t going to settle for an inhaler to breathe nor a pill to control her Cholesterol. She wasn’t going to place herself at the mercy of traditional medicine. She knew that a holistic approach would work because she understood from her years of research that our lifestyles, exercise, attitudes, and nutrition choices play a large part in our overall health. It was time she took her own advice.
Through administering to herself the principles that she’d learned, Melissa lost 16 lbs. of fat, gained 7 lbs. of muscle, and began to see more definition and tone throughout her body. She no longer used inhalers to breathe and stopped taking daily allergy medications. Melissa’s flexibility has increased because of daily Yoga practices, and she meditates to maintain a healthy level of stress. Every day she is growing stronger and healthier in her mind, body, and spirit.
“Going L.E.A.N. was one of the best decisions I ever made, and I am passionate about sharing these life-changing tools and information with you.”
A Note From Melissa
